Ahead of the semi-finals, season 27 of Dancing With the Stars dove head first into Country Night which brought a declaration of romance, more than one perfect score, a lot of stunning country-themed dances, and one shocking double elimination!
Two teams soared to the top of the leader boarder with scores of perfect 30’s for Country Night with Evanna Lynch and Keo Motsepe’s Rumba to “Every Little Thing” which was performed live by country star Carly Pearce. Their high-flying didn’t last long though as right behind them Juan Pablo Di Pace and Cheryl Burke earned a perfect score for their Charleston to “One Shot” by Hunter Hayes.
Falling just one point short of a perfect score was Milo Manheim and Witney Carson who earned a 29 for their Foxtrot to “Born to Love You” which was performed lived by LANCO. Also earning a 29 was Alexis Ren and Alan Bersten who danced a Samba to “Ladies in the ’90s” which was performed live by Lauren Alaina, but the focus was more on their pre-dance video in which Alan reciprocated Alexis’s feelings from last week and the pair even shared a kiss, and now only time will tell if it is a showmance for votes or if it is the real-deal.
At the middle of the pack was DeMarcus Ware and Lindsay Arnold who danced a very graceful Viennese Waltz to “Tennessee Whiskey” by Chris Stapleton. The judges loved the dance which earned Ware a score of 27. Just behind theme were John Schneider and Emma Slater, who actually opened up the Country Night as Schneider is a country singer himself, and perhaps had the most emotional pre-dance package of the season. The actor/singer opened up about his heartbreaking divorce which has caused a divide between himself and his children, and more than once Schneider thanked Emma for helping him through the darkest time of his life. Together, the pair earned a 25 for their Jazz to “Thank God I’m a Country Boy” by John Denver.
Bobby Bones and Sharna Burgess earned one of their highest scores of the season for their Viennese Waltz to “Can’t Help Falling in Love” which was performed live by Chris Janson. As the King of Country radio, this night meant a lot to Bobby and after earning his first 8 from Len he gave him a big smooch, and overall the pair scored a 24 for their dance.
Once again at the bottom of the pack was Joe Amabile and Jenna Johnson who scored a 21 for their Tango to “Burning Man” by Dierks Bentley ft. Brothers Osbourne.
The end of the show brought the Team Dances in which Team HayNow consisting of Bobby & Sharna, Evanna & Keo, John & Emma, and Milo & Witney danced to “9 to 5” by Dolly Parton. The judges loved the dance which earned a 29 out of 30 for all the members and would be added to their numbers for next week. Team JoeDown consisting of Joe & Jenna, DeMarcus & Lindsay, Alexis & Alan, and Juan Pablo & Cheryl danced to “Country Girl” by Luke Bryan, but the judges weren’t as wowed as before and that team only earned 26.
In the end it all came down to one double elimination where it was revealed that Evanna and Keo, John and Emma, and DeMarcus and Lindsay were all in jeopardy. Unfortunately it was John and Emma, and DeMarcus and Lindsay who were eliminated, meaning Grocery Store Joe survived another week inexplicably but also marked the first two males eliminated of the season!
