It seems like season 27 of Dancing With the Stars has flown by, and with only one week before the finals, the remaining six couples had to be narrowed down to four, and the results were some of the most shocking the show has ever seen.
The remaining six couples had to dance two dances: one dedication dance and one judges’ choice, ending up with a total score out of 60 for both dances combined, and while many of the pairs dazzled, two still had to be sent home.
One couple earned a perfect 30 for each of their dances, ending up with a total 60 out of 60 and that was Juan Pablo Di Pace and Cheryl Burke. The Fuller House actor dedicated his first dance, an Argentine Tango to his mother and her warrior spirit after she was diagnosed with and then beat breast cancer recently. The dance brought a standing ovation from everyone, judges included, and a lot of emotions from Juan Pablo and his parents. For their second dance, Bruno chose for the pair to redo their week one Salsa, and yet again they did not disappoint. The judges could hardly believe Juan Pablo isn’t a professional dancer, and like Bruno said, if he could have given him an 11 he would have.
While Juan Pablo and Cheryl got a perfect score, two teams were very close behind. Alexis Ren and Alan Bersten ended up with 58 out of 60, beginning with their first dance a Waltz which Alexis dedicated to Alan. Although the judges definitely enjoyed the dance, there were some issues with not enough actual Waltz content, and they were given a 28 out of 30. Things turned out much better for their second dance as Bruno asked them to redo their week one jive. After taking his instruction into account they came out with one of the most high-energy and inventive dances of the season which everyone loved earning a perfect 30.
Also earning a 58 out of 60 for both dances combined was Evanna Lynch and Keo Motsepe. For her first dance, the Harry Potter actress dedicated her Contemporary to her friend, director Simon Fitzmaurice who was diagnosed with ALS and sadly passed away last year and Evanna didn’t have time to say goodbye. The routine was both gorgeous and emotional and was worthy of a perfect 30. For their second dance, Len asked them to redo their Foxtrot from week one, in which he only scored them a five. Once again, the judges loved the dance, but saw some more small areas of improvement, giving the pair a 28 out of 30.
As the youngest contestant on the season, Milo Manheim has been wowing judges every week and for his dedication dance, Manheim dedicated it to his mom, actress Camryn Manheim who raised him on her own. Milo and Witney danced an Argentine Tango, which the judges enjoyed but not enough for a perfect score, giving them a 27 out of 30. Carrie Ann got the judges’ choice for their second dance and asked them to redo their Cha Cha. While there was different improvement, Carrie Ann still felt it was a bit “wild” and the pair earned a 28, giving them a total score of 55 out of 60.
Believe it or not, Joe Amabile was not the lowest scorer of the week! For their first dance Joe and Jenna danced a Contemporary dedicated to the important women in his life: his mom, grandmother, and girlfriend, but mostly to his girlfriend Kendall because of the “intimate” dance. While the judges not Joe has definitely shown improvement, they also noticed how the dance was Joe just standing there while Jenna did beautiful things, so they only earned a 22. For their judges’ choice dance, Carrie Ann asked Joe and Jenna to redo their week one quickstep, and really there was only going up from that week one disaster. Overall, everyone saw major improvement from Joe in the dance and gave him a 24, earning him a total of 46 out of 60 for the week.
Last, but certainly not least was Bobby Bones and Sharna Burgess who earned the lowest score with an overall 45 out of 60. They kicked off their night with a high-energy Salsa which was endlessly entertaining but overall not really a salsa, earning them a 21 out of 30. For their second dance, Len gave them some tips on how to improve their week one jive, and it went over better than his first dance as the pair earned a 24!
In the end, it all came down to one huge double elimination in which Alexis and Alan, Joe and Jenna, and Juan Pablo and Cheryl were all in jeopardy. Then, Tom Bergeron announced the couple that was safe: Alexis and Alan, and the place literally erupted. There was actual outrage from both the audience and the judges themselves that Juan Pablo and Cheryl had been eliminated after arguably being the ones to beat. Many fans have already called a boycott on the show, and it is already being regarded as one of the most shocking eliminations in Dancing With the Stars’ 27 season history.
On to the finals we go with Alexis and Alan, Bobby and Sharna, Milo and Witney, and Evanna and Keo.
