Daniel Goddard announced on his Instagram account today that he is “shocked and gutted” to be leaving The Young And The Restless (Y&R). The actor had played Cane Ashby on Y&R for the past 13 years.
“It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that I will no longer be part of the cast of the Young and the Restless,” Goddard posted. “I almost didn’t post but I felt that the most loyal & loving fans an actor could wish for deserved to know and watch the last story arc knowing the rich meaning behind it.”
Cane recently traveled to Las Vegas looking for Katherine Chancellor’s (Jeanne Cooper) original will. He was knocked out and woke up in a room containing the very document he’d been searching for. He discovered that he had in fact inherited Katherine’s millions and was looking for a way to break the news to his former brother-in-law Devon Hamilton (Bryton James).
Last year, actress Christel Khalil, who played his wife Lily, made the decision to drop to recurring status on the Y&R. Cane then had a brief romantic involvement with Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland). But there were rumors that Goddard didn’t approve of the storyline and so it was axed.
“I am forever grateful for the 13 years I have been a part of the Y&R family,” Goddard said. “But sadly it seems that without Neil and Lily there just is no Cane.”
How will Cane’s absence affect the Chancellor will storyline and other characters on the show moving forward? Stay tuned to Y&R to find out!
