David Spade will be guest-hosting this summer’s season of Bachelor in Paradise amid longtime host Chris Harrison’s break from the franchise.
A source confirmed to PEOPLE that Spade will be hosting the upcoming season of Bachelor in Paradise alongside a rotating roster of celebrity guest hosts.
Spade is known to be a fan of the franchise and even covers the show on his Instagram account. He also recently spoke out about his love for the series during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! back in March. When asked to choose between The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, Spade quipped, “I like it all. I just make fun of whatever’s in front of me.”
The news of the change in host for Bachelor In Paradise comes just three months after Harrison stepped away from the franchise after receiving criticism for defending contestant Rachael Kirkconnell’s past actions. Following his controversial comments, Harrison apologized and announced that he would “be stepping aside for a period of time,” which included his role as host on the After the Final Rose special.
Former Bachelorettes Tayshia Adams and Kaitlyn Bristowe were announced shortly after as replacements for Harrison in the upcoming 17th season of The Bachelorette which kicks off in June.
It’s not clear exactly when or if Harrison will make his return to the franchise, but he did share during an appearance on Good Morning America in March that he does plan on returning eventually.
