Demi Lovato Is “Awake And With Her Family” After An Alleged Overdose

Demi Lovato was rushed to the hospital after on Tuesday, July 24 after an alleged overdose, but she is now stable with her family by her side, according to her rep.

“Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support,” her rep said in a statement to Us Weekly. “Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now.”

On Tuesday, a representative for the Los Angeles Police Department had confirmed to Us Weekly that Lovato had been transported to a hospital in L.A. after a possible overdose. Reports began circulating that it had been a heroin overdose; however, a source close to the former Disney star denied the allegations. Audio of the emergency call, which was obtained by TMZ, seems to contradict this, however. In the tape, it is revealed that Lovato was unconscious when the ambulance arrived and that she was revived with Narcan, an emergency medication that is used to reverse the effects of a drug overdose.

In the past, Lovato has struggled with addiction, mental illness and eating disorders. In 2010, she sought treatment for substance abuse, bulimia and self-harm, and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. She relapsed after leaving rehab and spent a year living in a sober facility. In June, after being sober for six years, the pop star revealed in her song “Sober” that she had relapsed.

Lovato was supposed to perform at Atlantic City Beach on Thursday, July 26, but her appearance has been canceled following this incident.
