It has now been over five days since singer Demi Lovato was rushed to the hospital following an apparent overdose, and updates report that the 25-year-old has suffered some complications and side effects in her recovery.
According to reports Lovato has remained at Cedars Sinai Medical Center partly due to the fact that she suffered from extreme nausea and high fever during her recovery and there was a fear she had developed an infection.
Following her shocking hospitalization from the overdose, which was allegedly from heroin, sources close to the star said that after years of battling drug and alcohol addictions and remaining sober for quite some time, she had recently begun a “downward spiral.”
“She had a sober coach who she cut out of her life a few months ago. She’s been in a downward spiral ever since and has not been doing well,” the insider shared to E! News. “She’s been heavily using and her friends have been very worried that this was going to happen.”
“She made the decision to come out publicly about her relapse recently because she thought she could inspire her fans and it would help her keep on track, but she has been battling her own demons for months,” the insider continued. “Demi has been trying to stay busy with her tour but she has definitely been having her ups and downs.”
While Lovato’s rep has not given an update since confirming that the singer was “awake and with her family,” Lovato’s backup dancer Dani Vitale did speak out after fans targeted her for being the person Lovato was with when her partying began the day she overdosed.
Lovato was seen celebrating Vitale’s birthday earlier in the day, and fans have attacked Vitale for enabling Lovato, however Vitale wants the negativity to stop and revealed she wasn’t with Lovato later in the day.
“I care about Demi just like all of you do. I have not said anything about this situation until now because her recovery has been of the most importance,” Vitale wrote in an Instagram post. “I was not with Demi with the incident happened, but I am with her now, and will continue to be because she means the world to me just as she does to all of you.”
She continued, “Like all of you, I have nothing but love in my heart for her. There is no need for any negativity towards the one who care about Demi at this time. There is too much of it in this world as it is.”
Vitale ended her message with a request, “Remember that you always have a community of Lovatics who LOVE. Please remember that when you take out your phones and start typing. Remember that we all love her more than we can ever put into words. Please continue send her love during her recovery.”
