Derek Hough Won’t Be Returning For DWTS Season 20Published on January 13, 2015.
The hit reality dancing competition show Dancing With the Stars will be without its five-time winner dancing pro Derek Hough when it returns for its 20th season in March 2015.
Hough has to step out of the show because he will be playing the male lead in the New York Spring Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall for seven weeks.
“I’m ecstatic that I’m able to extend my passion for performing to the Great Stage at Radio City Music Hall in New York Spring Spectacular,” Hough told People magazine. “Performing at Radio City Music Hall in a show that celebrates everything that is beloved about New York City is a dream. I can’t wait to show fans this production…it’s going to be like nothing they’ve seen me in before.”
The show also stars Nashville’s Laura Benanti and will feature the voices of Whoopi Goldberg voicing the Statue of Liberty and Bella Thorne who will be the voice of the Alice in Wonderland Statue and will also feature cameos from celebrities like Martha Stewart and Donald Trump.
As well as Hough, another dancing pro, Cheryl Burke, will be absent from the show as she will be starring in a new NBC series that is still in development.
Meanwhile, original judge Len Goodman has also announced that he will be leaving the show after the 20th season, “Next year is their 10th year, it’s the 20th series of the show. So I think that’s a nice place to stop,” Goodman stated of his decision to exit.
New York Spring Spectacular begins on March 12 and will run through May 3 this spring.
