Almost one month after the shocking and sudden passing of 20-year-old Disney star Cameron Boyce on July 6, 2019, his official cause of death has been revealed.
The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner confirmed on Tuesday, July 30, that Boyce passed away due to epilepsy.
“The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner determined the cause of death for actor Cameron Boyce was sudden unexpected death in epilepsy,” the coroner said in a statement.
“On July 8, an autopsy was performed, and the cause and manner of death were deferred. After additional testing, the cause of death was determined to be sudden unexpected death in epilepsy.” The statement added that the actor’s “manner of death was certified as natural.”
A few days after Boyce’s passing, his family opened up about his sudden death, revealing his epilepsy, saying his passing “was due to a seizure as a result of an ongoing medical condition, and that condition was epilepsy.”
“It is with a profoundly heavy heart that we report that this morning we lost Cameron,” a family spokesperson said in a statement.
“He passed away in his sleep due to a seizure which was a result of an ongoing medical condition for which he was being treated. The world is now undoubtedly without one of its brightest lights, but his spirit will live on through the kindness and compassion of all who knew and loved him,” the family spokesperson further explained. “We are utterly heartbroken and ask for privacy during this immensely difficult time as we grieve the loss of our precious son and brother.”
Following his death, his family started the Cameron Boyce Foundation. According to the foundation’s website, the “Cameron Boyce Foundation provides young people artistic and creative outlets as alternatives to violence and negativity and uses resources and philanthropy for positive change in the world. The Foundation was established in 2019 to honor Cameron’s legacy.”
