Dancing With the Stars pro Cheryl Burke has had one interesting love story with fiance, Boy Meets World alum Matthew Lawrence, and after getting engaged on her 34th birthday this year, she is now dishing on wedding plans.
With a busy and highly competitive season of Dancing With the Stars on the go, Burke said, “We don’t plan on getting married until 2019.” She added, “So just one thing for me, I’m really bad at multitasking,” referencing that all her focus is currently on season 27 which she is competing in alongside Fuller House actor Juan Pablo Di Pace.
Of course, with her engagement to Lawrence, and the engagement of her fellow Dancing With the Stars pro dancers Jenna Johnson and Val Chmerkovskiy, all the buzz behind the scenes is of weddings and inquiries of who is being invited. “This is why I wanted a destination wedding but that’s not happening … yes, of course, [they’ll be intvited.] I mean this is my family,” Burke said of her Dancing With the Stars friends all being at the wedding next year.
She added that the show played a big part in her and Lawrence’s relationship. “Actually, I did meet Matt here, in this ballroom, back in Season 3 when his brother [Joey] introduced me to him. So, of course, I have to invite them.”
She also couldn’t help but gush over her fiance and his patience and understanding of putting wedding planning on hold while she competes. “He understands. And that’s why we get along and we love each other so much,” Burke explained. “I love him for his compassion for what I do and vice versa. He’s in the business, so he gets it … We hang out, we eat, we just talk and catch up because I haven’t seen him in like 15, 16 hours.”
Burke and Lawrence began dating in 2007 and were together for just over a year before they abruptly split in early 2008. They were then broken up for nearly a decade before they reunited in 2017 and struck up a romance again before getting engaged in May, 2018.
