Elton John Fires Back At Dolce And Gabbana Regarding Adoption And IVF

Domenico Dolce and Stephano Gabbana are real dudes, and they’re traditionalists–who would’ve guessed?

Probably not Elton John. Well, Elton certainly knew who the real Dolce & Gabbana were, but he was likely shocked when he read a recent interview in which the Italian fashion designers suggested their disdain for what they’ve coined as the process of synthesizing children.

According to Domenico Dolce, “You are born to a mother and a father — or at least that’s how it should be. I call children of chemistry, synthetic children. Rented uterus, semen chosen from a catalog.”

The twist, of course, is that both designers are openly gay, and have been for decades–they even dated each other once upon a time. Still, they maintain gay marriage shouldn’t exist and that all procreation should be “an act of love.”

Yep. That’s offensive to a lot of people, regardless of being “straight,” “gay” or “other.” Elton John, who is raising two sons with his husband, took exception to the quotes from the interview and fired back via Instagram:

“How dare you refer to my beautiful children as ‘synthetic,’. And shame on you for wagging your judgemental little fingers at IVF – a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both straight and gay, to fulfil their dream of having children. Your archaic thinking is out of step with the times, just like your fashions. I shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana ever again. #BoycottDolceGabbana.”

So. Clearly Elton indicted himself with this statement, and yes, it’s wholly petulant. Two parties coloring things with arbitration.
