Singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell is in intensive care after being rushed to the hospital on Tuesday.
Sources say that she is “awake and in good spirits” following a surgical procedure. The 71 year-old folk legend was rushed to a hospital after paramedics responded to a 911 call from her home in the Bel Air area of Los Angeles around 2:30 PM Tuesday.
“Joni was found unconscious in her home this afternoon. She regained consciousness on the ambulance ride to an LA area hospital,” read a statement on Joni’s official website.
“She is currently in intensive care undergoing tests and is awake and in good spirits. More updates to come as we hear them. Light a candle and sing a song, let’s all send good wishes her way.”
Musicians sent well wishes to Joni on Twitter, including Tori Amos, who wrote “please keep Joni in your thoughts today.”
Famous for her hit “Big Yellow Taxi,” Joni has won eight Grammy awards, including a lifetime achievement award in 2002. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997
In 2014, she released a four-disc box set with songs from her entire career and appeared at Clive Davis’s annual pre-Grammy party in February.
She suffers from a rare skin condition that prevents her from performing.
