Gwyneth Paltrow Slammed On Social Media For Food Stamp Challenge

Oscar winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow has made a reputation for herself as one of the most pretentious celebrities in Hollywood and no matter how hard she tries to deflect that image, it always gets turned around on her.

Often criticized and ridiculed for her lifestyle website GOOP, Paltrow, 42, recently tried to explain in an interview that her website is for everyone, not just those with lots of money but then shot herself in the foot by saying, “I’m incredibly close to the common woman.”

Now, the actress is trying even harder to see things from the eyes of those who do not live the same lifestyle as her by accepting a challenge from The Food Bank for New York City to live on food stamps for one week with a grocery budget of $29.

On Thursday April 9, Paltrow took to her Twitter to show her $29 worth of food choices for the week which included brown rice, black beans, peas, eggs, tortillas, cilantro, limes and vegetables along with the caption, “This is what $29 gets you at the grocery store—what families on SNAP (i.e. food stamps) have to live on for a week.”

Well you know what they say about the best intentions because even though she took on the challenge to raise awareness on hunger and poverty, she received instant backlash from social media users.

“Don’t Worry, Poor People: Gwyneth Paltrow Is Here to Show You How to GOOP Your Food-Stamp Benefits,” one Twitter user wrote, while another stated, “@GwynethPaltrow Maybe instead of grandstanding about $29…you could help normal people and donate some of your millions to a food bank?” Many similar reactions followed as many seem to think, Paltrow’s efforts would be much more beneficial if she donated some of her millions.
