Singer John Legend, 35, and wife Chrissy Teigen, 28, have now been happily married for over a year but according to the singer it took a long time for the relationship to develop.

In an interview with Los Angeles Confidential magazine, Legend who appears on their December/January issue discussed not being the kind of guy who believes in love at first sight, not for himself at least, and it was not any different when he met model wife, Chrissy Teigen.

The two first met in 2007 on the set of the music video for his song, “Stereo”, but their actual relationship didn’t start for quite some time after.

When the nine-time Grammy winner was asked if he loved the model as soon as they met, he responded, “Not right away. I’m more cautious than that,” he explained.

“I wasn’t like, ‘This is the woman I’m going to marry’ from day one. For me I’m the kind of person who needs to grow into that feeling. It was probably a couple of years in when I could already see us being together forever.”

Legend popped the question to Teigen in December 2011 and they were married in Italy in September 2013. His song “All of Me” was written for her. “The more you know someone, the more you’re inspired by your relationship,” Legend said of the song for his wife.

Chrissy also talked about the early stages of their relationship where she admitted they did “hook up” but also had lots of space from each other.

“The worst thing you can do is try to lock someone like that down early on, then have them think, ‘There’s so much more out there.’ I played it cool for a long time,” she told Cosmopolitan magazine.
