Earlier this month, Hollywood star Jennifer Lawrence wrote a very poignant op-ed titled, “Why Do I Make Less Than My Co-Stars,” in which she spoked about the inequality in pay for actresses versus their male co-stars for the same work.
The essay garnered a response from many of Hollywood’s stars including Lawrence’s frequent co-star Bradley Cooper who stated that he is now teaming up with his female co-stars to help them get higher salaries before starting work on any film he is slated to do. “I don’t know where it’s changing otherwise but that’s something that I could do. Usually you don’t talk about the financial stuff, you have people. But you know what? It’s time to start doing that.”
Don’t expect Avengers star Jeremy Renner to do the same however, after he told Business Insider that it isn’t his job to help female co-stars get paid more. “That’s not my job. I don’t know contracts and money and all that sort of stuff. When it comes to that sort of stuff I let other people deal with that,” he explained. “I’m a performer and I know human behavior. I do what I’m good at, that’s what I focus on,” continued Renner who worked with both Lawrence and Cooper on American Hustle.
