John Stamos will be joining American Idol as a guest mentor this year!
The star will be taking part in one of the season’s specials where the Top 9 will take a trip to Disney World. The episode will have a Disney theme and contestants will receive guidance from Stamos.
Stamos has been a long-time Disney fan and is currently starring on the Disney+ original series, Big Shot. Stamos also famously proposed to his girlfriend, Caitlin McHugh, at Disneyland in October 2017.
Stamos opened up to Entertainment Tonight about the new role and opportunity to be a mentor on American Idol. “They said, you know, ‘Could you come down and be a mentor?’ I’m like, ‘Mentor?!’ These kids are so great I’m gonna tell them one thing, and they’re gonna go, ‘Stamos, we’ve heard you sing. Stop,'” he shared jokingly.
Stamos won’t be the only star to make a guest appearance on American Idol‘s Disney night. Oscar-winner Jon Batiste, known for his role in Soul, will also be making an appearance, alongside Descendants star Sofia Carson.
Voting will happen in real-time following the magical evening at Disney and only seven of the nine contestants will move forward in the competition.
American Idol‘s Disney Night special will air live on ABC on Sunday, May 2, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m.
