Joshua Morrow (Nick Newman) knows his way around a love triangle. So it’s a major vote of confidence that he counts his current one on The Young and the Restless (Y&R) among his favorites!
The actor recently spoke with Soap Opera Digest and previewed how the romantic fortunes of Nick, Sally (Courtney Hope) and Adam (Mark Grossman) will play out.
“I thought that our show needed another really strong love triangle,” Morrow explained. “So if this is done properly, and the writers and production trust me, Mark and Courtney enough to give us the right amount of leeway to tell it, this could be a great story.”

As it turns out, Morrow is a huge fan of love triangle storylines – especially when he’s in them! He cites his character’s love triangle with Sharon (Sharon Case) and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) as his favorite storyline.
“At the risk of sounding self-serving, I just thought it was the best triangle we’ve had since I’ve been on the show.”
Morrow couldn’t help but brag about his co-stars in this current storyline, including the “very watchable” Grossman. “He’s really taken a completely different path with the character and my greatest compliment to him is I now can’t imagine anyone else doing Adam,” Morrow stated.
As for Ms. Spectra, Morrow is excited to see how this love triangle brings out the best in Hope.
“I think it’s a wonderful opportunity for her to really show how difficult, painful and exhilarating this kind of situation is,” Morrow said, citing his own character’s experience of being in the middle.
“Sally is in this position and it’s a chance for Courtney to show off some fireworks,” he added.
With almost 30 years under his belt at the CBS soap, Morrow sees a lot of promise in this storyline, and hopes that it’s given enough time to build some dramatic stakes.
“I really hope Josh [Griffith, co-executive producer and head writer] and the rest of the writers and production take their time with it and make it as messy and complicated and painful as possible,” Morrow shared.
As for the outcome, does Morrow have any idea who should win Ms. Spectra’s heart in the end?
“I don’t for one second believe that Nick and Sally have this incredible love story ahead of them,” Morrow revealed, “because I watch Adam and Sally together and I get it.”
A big part of Morrow’s success in daytime television has been his chemistry with co-stars. And clearly, he sees a lot of it between Grossman and Hope, which has reportedly spilled over into a real life relationship.
“They’ve got a great connection and it’s very complex,” Morrow continued. “Even though Sally is with Nick now, she can’t shake Adam, and my job as Nick is to make this decision as hard for her as possible.”
