Don’t ever say dancers aren’t athletes. These people take some serious shots, and get up to keep grooving. This is especially true of the women, and notably–this week, at least–Julianne Hough.

The blonde beauty has come back to Dancing With The Stars as a full-time judge this season, but she is still game to strut her stuff on the dance floor from time to time with her professional peers. This week, she jumped in with the gang to do a group number in hopes of wowing the audience.

Before the group performed live, they offered a little glimpse into rehearsal, when Julianne did a flashy move with partner Valentin Chmerkovskiy. Yes, this is the brother of Maks Chmerkovskiy. The moved ended with Julianne falling hard to the floor. Some fans were bold enough to accuse Val of dropping Julianne on purpose. It is easily presumed that none of these fans are actual dancers. You’d never drop anyone on purpose as a partner: 1.) Regardless of personal feelings, there’s a mutual respect, and 2.) Your job is on the line.

When the live performance rolled around, the lift was left in the mix, and it didn’t go so well. The couple covered like the pros they are, but Julianne’s face told the story. She looked like she got goosed pretty good when the lift only made it halfway across Valentin’s shoulders. People are placing the onus on Val, but looking at photos of the lift, Julianne should have kept her legs together to create a plank, and her legs came apart literally leaving her sitting on Val’s shoulders. Ultimately, the lift didn’t go well, because they were both nervous about it after the drop. And it was rather comical.

Still, Julianne was ravishing in red, and the flub didn’t really diminish her return to the floor.
