14 years after Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson’s now infamous halftime show, the singer has revealed he is making his way back to the biggest sporting event of the year.
During the Sunday night football game on October 22 between the Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots, Timberlake took to his social media to reveal the big news. In a ridiculous video posted to his Instagram, Timberlake teamed up with his friend Jimmy Fallon to announce he is the headlining performer at Super Bowl LII’s half time show. “I Do have the time. Half the time… @PepsiHalftime @SBLII @Pepsi @NFL @jimmyFallon @FallonTonight,” he captioned the video.
Pepsi also shared the anticipated announcement, writing, “It’s official: @jtimberlake is taking the #PepsiHalftime stage at @SBLII Tune into @SNF tonight for the full scoop & we’ll see you on Feb 4!”
The big news comes after quite a bit of speculation that the popular singer would be taking the gig which will take place during Super Bowl LII on Feb. 4, 2018 in Minnesota’s new stadium. In an interview with Mike Tirico of Football Night in America, Timberlake talked about his plans for the show saying he probably can’t do as much theatrics as Lady Gaga pulled off last year. “I don’t know, man. I’m 36 now. I don’t know how much of that I can do anymore. What I really want to do is take the opportunity to put together a performance that feels like it unifies. I feel like that would be the ultimate accomplishment, and then the icing on the cake is at some point, within that 12 minutes, that everybody is shaking their booty.”
