Kanye West Explains His Grammys Interruption
Published on February 11, 2015.There have been a lot of comments from a lot of people about Kanye West’s almost interruption of Beck at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday Feb. 8, and West’s subsequent after party rant in which he stated among other things, “Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyonce.”
Now after many finding his actions “disrespectful” and “immature” West tried to explain himself while talking with Ryan Seacrest on Wednesday February 11, but ended up raising even more eyebrows.
“You know, I felt like the whole Grammys, right when that happened, everybody was looking at me, and then people started screaming, ‘Kanye! Kanye! Go do it!’ Okay, that didn’t really happen, these were voices in my head,” West tried to explain on Seacrest’s KIIS FM radio show. “So the voices in my head told me to go up, and then I just walked up, like, halfway up the stage.”
As for his decision to sit back down, West revealed that he wasn’t really trying to disrespect Beck at all but was trying to make a joke about his infamous interruption of Taylor Swift in 2009.
“I just really didn’t want to take away from Beck’s moment or the time he’s having to talk because you know the Grammys, they play music really quick no matter who you are and everything. So I didn’t want anything to take away from his screen time. So I just walked back down because you know, it was kind of a joke like the Grammys themselves.”
As for his rant afterwards, West definitely meant what he said about the Grammys needing to respect artistry but did not mean to target Beck at all. “I think it came off the wrong way, and that was a mis-wording on my part, because obviously Beck is one of the most respected artists and respects artistry.”
It seems West is in the clear with everyone as Beck did not seem perturbed by the incident saying he “loves” Kanye, and meanwhile West is getting ready to head in to the studio with Swift. “We’re definitely going to go in. Any artist with an amazing point of view, perspective, fan base, I’m down to get in the studio and work.”
