Karina Smirnoff Breaks Off Third Engagement

Unlucky in love is one way to describe former Dancing With the Stars pro Karina Smirnoff, 37, after it’s been reported that she and fiance Jason Adelman, 37, have split after a brief engagement.

The pair only just became engaged in mid-January when Adelman popped the question to the gorgeous dancer after the two met at a party and began dating months before. A source close to the couple told Us Weekly magazine that Smirnoff is not handling the broken engagement well, “It’s a very sticky situation. [Smirnoff] won’t discuss the engagement because she is so distressed about the entire thing” and “it is such a complicated mess.”

Although it is unclear when the split became official, Smirnoff was spotted without her massive ring in recent weeks while promoting her book “We’re Just Not That Into You,” and some sources are reporting that the conflict had to do with Smirnoff’s “flirty” behavior around other men. She was not accused of cheating but her rep released a statement saying the report, “is disrespectful and insulting,” and “is nothing less than an attempted smear campaign from a malicious person.”

To add to the heartbreak, this is Smirnoff’s third engagement without an actual trip down the aisle as she was engaged to fellow DWTS pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy in 2008 but they broke up less than a year later.

She then became engaged to MLB player Brad Penny in 2010 and again the engagement lasted about a year before they too split.
