In the newest issue of People magazine, reality star Kate Gosselin is opening up about how reality TV fame 10 years ago with the hit TLC shows Jon & Kate Plus 8 and then Kate Plus 8 has changed her family’s life forever.
In the issue, Gosselin gets very candid about her family with eight children, and also revealed that she had to come to the difficult decision to send her 12-year-old son Collin away from home to attend a program that will “help him reach his full potential.” “Collin has special needs,” Kate told the publication. “[There’s] a fairly fluid diagnosis of what those needs are, but he needs to learn certain strategies to help him deal with things. This has been a struggle we’ve had for a very long time, and it’s not something that has only impacted me or him – our entire family has been impacted.”
She also explained that Collin is “enrolled in a program that is helping him learn the skills he needs to be the best him he can be. We miss him so much, so it’s been hard because there is a huge hole in our family without him here. But it comforts us to know he’s where he needs to be right now, and I can feel good about that.” Collin is one of the sextuplets that Gosselin welcomed with her now ex-husband Jon in May of 2004, launching their reality TV series.
On dealing with his absence, Kate said, “When your kids go to college, do you miss them? Yes, but you reassure yourself that they are getting so much out of it. And that’s the same sort of investment I feel like I’ve made in Collin’s future.”
People’s “The Gosselins Tell All: Their Lives Now” issue hits stands Friday, August 26.
