Kate Middleton Borrowing Queen Elizabeth’s Jewels
Published on February 26, 2014. Updated October 15, 2014Do you ever borrow clothes or jewelry from your relatives? Imagine if your mother-in-law was the Queen of England!
Kate Middleton is headed down under for her first royal tour of Australia and New Zealand — and to make sure she sparkles, she’s borrowing from Queen Elizabeth’s extensive jewel collection.
These royal gems contain a lot of history. Some of the pieces are ones that Queen Elizabeth wore on her own Australian tour all the way back in 1954! Check out the video to see some of the stunning necklaces and earrings.
The young Duchess of Cambridge is known for looking stylish even in inexpensive clothes from H&M or Zara, but she has borrowed from the royal jewel collection before. A few weeks ago, she wore a massive Cartier diamond necklace to a charity event held at the National Portrait Gallery.
She paired the impressive, timeless piece with a gorgeous midnight blue Grecian-inspired tulle gown from designer Jenny Packham and sky-high black pumps. It’s clear why she’s become such a style icon.
Kate’s stunning engagement ring also bears family significance. William proposed with his late mother Diana’s diamond and sapphire engagement ring. “This was my way of keeping her close to it all,” he said in 2010.
