The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge stepped out earlier this week on Tuesday for a trip to Dundee, Scotland. The Royal duo began their visit by opening the city’s brand-new design museum, V&A Dundee.

For the occasion, Kate Middleton opted for an Alexander McQueen tartan coat we’ve seen her pull out a few times during her royal reign. She first debuted the green and blue coatdress way back in 2012 when she visited St. Andrews school. The second appearance of the coat was for the Christmas service in 2013, but we haven’t seen it since. The important reason Kate decided to bring this particular McQueen coat out while visiting Scotland is because the tartan print is that of Scotland’s 3rd Battalion Regiment, known as the Black Watch, which signifies a nod of respect to the country.

Kate paired the significant coat with black tights and pumps. She accessorized with Princess Diana’s sapphire rings and a top handle emerald green purse. We love that even when Kate repeats something from the archives of her wardrobe, she finds a way to make it look different whether it be her accessories or a different hairstyle. Knowing how to strategically style a look is truly what makes a fashionista!
