She first hinted at her pregnancy when she dropped a teaser for the music video for the song. In a short teaser clip, Perry rests her hands on her stomach, as if cradling a baby bump.
The full “Never Worn White” music video dropped on Wednesday night, and the singer confirmed the speculation in a stunning closing shot showing her profile, donning a sheer dress and flaunting her baby bump.
At the same time, Perry’s new song alluded to both motherhood and marriage, with lyrics like “I’ve never worn white/ but I wanna get it right/ yeah I really want to try with you” and “at the end of it all, I choose you and you choose me.”
She also teased about the reveal on Twitter, writing, “Let’s just say it’s gonna be a jam packed summer…”
After the video’s premiere, the singer took to Instagram Live where she confirmed that she is pregnant, while she was talking about how busy the coming months will be with both a baby and working on new music.
“Not only will I be giving birth literally but also figuratively to something you guys have been waiting for,” Perry said. “So let’s call it a double whammy. It’s a two-fer.”
The American Idol judge also said that her pregnancy has been the longest secret she’s ever had to keep, and admitted she would have “to reveal it at some point” because it’s “getting pretty obvious.”
Perry went on to talk about how she’s had some serious pregnancy cravings so far – especially spicy stuff, which she never liked in the past – explaining that she carries Tabasco sauce with her everywhere now.
Bloom and Perry began dating in 2016 before the actor popped the question on Valentine’s Day 2019, so for right now the couple are not only expecting a child but still planning their upcoming wedding. “Orlando and I are united with our approach,” Perry explained. “It’s not about the party, it’s about the coming together of people who will hold us accountable when things get really hard. Those are just the facts when you’re with someone who challenges you to be your best self.”
