Kelly Clarkson Addresses Her Body Critics

Kelly Clarkson was recently photographed in a blue dress with a pair of Spanx visible, causing some people to criticize her body.

The new mom has fired back, opening up about being criticized while in the public eye. When the hosts of BBC Breakfast asked her about conforming to a certain kind of image this week, the 32 year-old singer and new mom said, “I think we’re beautiful creatures. We’re always held in high-esteem and I think that comes with a level of scrutiny.”

“I guess I have always been super confident, in my talent and in what I love to do, it’s never really gotten me down. How I grew up, never in my head have I been super concerned with that,” she said, referring to image. “I’ve always just worried [about] sounding great somewhere. I get destroyed if I suck somewhere.”

In fact, she takes it personally when other artists don’t want to work with her.

“I honestly would collaborate with a lot of people, but everyone usually says no,” she told BBC Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw. “I’m not kidding you. I have legitimately asked several people that I’m not going to call out, and that’s cool, but I don’t know.”

“I ask good people, I don’t want to sing with crap people, so I mean, I ask people who are great vocalists, but I’m not going to point out anyone,” the Grammy winner continued. “I have asked several people… Sometimes I feel like I have the plague, or leprosy, they’re like, ‘If you get too close…’ I don’t know.”
