More than a month after the passing of beloved Young and the Restless actor Kristoff St. John, the coroner’s report was released on Tuesday, March 19 and revealed that the actor was admitted to a mental health hospital only days before his death.
“According to the available information, the decedent is a 52-year-old black male who was found dead in his residence. He has a history of alcohol abuse, bipolar disorder and suicidal ideations,” the coroner’s report states according to The Blast who obtained the documents.
“He was released from a mental health hospital on 02/01/2019 following a 72-hour hold. No suicide note was found,” the report adds.“No trauma is noted and no foul play is suspected in this case.”
The report later goes on to state in the “informant/witness statements” section: “The decedent had been admitted to Las Encinas Mental Health Hospital in Pasadena on 01/26/2019 for threatening to hurt himself and alcohol abuse. The decedent was released on 02/01/2019 and went to his residence.”
As previously reported, the report also officially ruled St. John’s death an accident, listing the cause of death from “hypertrophic heart disease … and effects of ethanol.”
St. John, who portrayed Neil Winters on Y&R since 1991, passed away at the age of 52 on February 3, 2019 in his home in the San Fernando Valley.
The actor was open about his personal battles following the death of his son Julian from suicide back in 2014.
CBS announced that Young and the Restless would be airing a special tribute storyline to St. John in late April which will feature the return of former Y&R stars including Shemar Moore and Victoria Rowell as they gather to say goodbye to both St. John and his character.
