For decades, fans, critics and the entertainment industry as a whole have been fascinated by the life and tragic death of legendary Nirvana front-man Kurt Cobain.

Over the years there have been numerous documentaries, TV specials and books written about the band and Cobain although it’s only now -over 20 years since his suicide, that the world is getting the first ever authorized documentary on Kurt Cobain.

Back in November it was announced that Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck would be coming to HBO. Ahead of it’s May 4 network premiere, an intense look at the documentary has been released revealing never before seen pieces and fragments of Cobain’s life.

The film’s creator Brett Morgen has been working on this project for eight years with full co-operation of Kurt’s family including ex-wife Courtney Love; who gave Morgen full access to their storage locker full of videos and Kurt’s journals of art and writing. “Once I stepped into Kurt’s archive, I discovered over 200 hours of unreleased music and audio, a vast array of art projects, countless hours of never-before-seen home movies and over 4000 pages of writings that together help paint an intimate portrait of an artist who rarely revealed himself to the media,” Morgen stated when the project was confirmed.

The trailer incorporates footage from Kurt’s childhood as well as integrated animation, with interviews from family and friends that includes a warning from one family member who knew Cobain was not ready for the stardom that rushed at him.

Morgen also stated that the documentary will consist of 85% material that has never before been revealed to the public including a “mind-blowing 12 minute acoustic Cobain unheard track.”
