Lady Gaga got high. So high she got sick. But it’s not what you think–not what you think at all. Gaga can handle a boat load of drugs, she just can’t handle real air.

Lady Gaga was recently in Denver for some musical action. If you’re not already familiar, Denver is known as the Mile High City. That’s because it sits at an elevation equivalent to a mile (5,280 feet) above sea level. The terrain rolls on the high plateau, so it ranges from just under to just over a mile high.

Ultimately, most people have no issue when visiting a city like Denver, but Gaga got high. A new kind of high that sent her spiraling low. She was diagnosed with altitude sickness, and admitted to a local hospital.

Do you need to go to the hospital for altitude sickness? Nah. It can be pretty brutal if you’ve never experienced it before–and you’ll feel as if you’ll never catch your breath again–but most people recover after enduring a couple nights at the altitude level. Some people are more susceptible to getting altitude sickness. And yes, if you don’t live at altitude, exercising at altitude is a challenge.

For Lady Gaga, the circumstance is a bit odd. It is easy to spin into a fever pitch while performing, so that probably triggered her issues, but it is so rare for anyone to experience altitude sickness at such a low altitude. Most often, it occurs above 8,000 or 9,000 feet.

Regardless, none of Gaga’s monsters need to worry about their false idol goddess. She’ll be just fine. And she looked stellar while in her oxygen mask–see for yourself in the video below.
