Late Country Singer Craig Strickland’s Widow Shares His Final Texts Before Tragic Death

Last year at this time, there was no celebration of ringing in the new year for Helen Strickland, the wife of country singer Craig Strickland.
It was a year ago on Wednesday, January 4, that Strickland, who sang for the band Backroad Anthem, was found dead from hypothermia after a lengthy search for his body following an accident in which his boat capsized in a lake while he and his friend were on a hunting trip in Oklahoma.
Now, Helen Strickland is looking back on the past year without her husband, and shared the final texts he sent her before the tragic accident in an Instagram post which she captioned, “A year ago today, the search for my husband @backroadcraig concluded. I remember receiving these last texts from him before talking for the last time on the phone-I’m so thankful God gave me the blessing of getting to say and hear the words, ‘I love you’ to/from him just moments before he and Chase got in their 10ft flat bottom boat.”
She then shared the screengrab of the texts which included her sending him a photo of herself cuddling with one of their dogs, to which Craig replied, “You look so precious,” and added that he was “running errands” and about to pick up their dog Sam who was found alive with the body of Strickland’s friend Chase Morland who went with him on the trip.
Helen added in her post, “It was truly such a blessing the day we found Craig. We were finally able to find some kind of peace knowing he was with his Heavenly Father.” Helen and Craig Strickland would have celebrated their second wedding anniversary on November 29, 2016, which she remembered with a wedding photo montage, writing, “Happy Anniversary Craig Michael. I will miss you every step of the way in this life…but I am thankful that I can always look back on the precious memory of our marriage with love in my heart.”
