After recent news of their split following eight months of marriage, it seems Liam Hemsworth has decided to make his separation from Miley Cyrus official.
According to multiple sources, the 29-year-old actor filed for divorce from Cyrus, 26, in Los Angeles on Wednesday, August 21. In the court documents that were filed by famed Hollywood divorce attorney Laura Wasser, Hemsworth has cited the reason as “irreconcilable differences.”
TMZ reports that the famous duo had a prenup so there will not be divorce battle over money and that the date of separation is listed as TBD.
“Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time,” a rep for Cyrus stated on August 10. “Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers.”
Although the split started amicably enough, it seems things changed in the following week when Cyrus was spotted making out with recently single Kaitlynn Carter during a girls trip to Italy, and then released her new single “Slide Away” where she seemingly accused Hemsworth of drinking and taking pills, which Hemsworth denies.
Hemsworth and Cyrus first met in 2009 while filming The Last Song. The pair dated for three years before announcing their engagement in June 2012 but ended their engagement in September of 2013. Two years later rumors swirled the pair had reconciled, they confirmed their relationship was on again in January 2016 and in October of that year once again confirmed they were engaged. On December 23, 2018 the pair had a surprise private wedding at their home in Tennessee.
Shortly after their split, Hemsworth shared a brief note on social media. Alongside a photo of a beach sunset, Hemsworth, wrote “Hi all
Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward.”
He added, “This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false. Peace and Love.”
