“I was meant to have been getting on with that, in my head, during these months. But then I got hit with COVID fog,” Craymer told the British news outlet. “I think one day there will be another film, because there’s meant to be a trilogy, you see. I know Universal would like me to do it.”
Craymer is the mastermind behind the original stage musical Mamma Mia! and produced both the 2008 film adaptation and its 2018 sequel. The sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again grossed less than the original film, but was still a box office success grossing almost $400 million worldwide.
It’s still unconfirmed which timeline the third sequel of the film would follow, whether it would be Sophie’s story or Donna’s from the ’70s. One element Craymer did tease, however, is that she would love to use some of the new songs ABBA has written that are set for release later this year.
