Mariah Carey Explains New Song Is Not About Ex Nick Cannon

Just ahead of her Las Vegas residency which begins on May 6, singer Mariah Carey released one of her newest songs, “Infinity”, and many were quick to assume that the lyrics were taking aim at her ex-husband Nick Cannon.

The 46-year old pop diva however made sure to clarify that’s not what it is about at all, “Honestly it’s about loving yourself first,” she told EXTRA on Monday April 27.

“‘Infinity’ is like love equals you first. There’s a section of the song where it’s like a chant — You’re leaving, you’re leaving, you’re out the door infinity loving me more and more’ — meaning you have to love yourself first, it can’t be all about somebody else’s thing or their issues, it has to be you and then you can deal with the rest of the things in your life.”

The singer even commented about the rumors of her supposed new love interest, Brett Ratner, joking, “I want everyone to know that we’re getting married next week, me and Brett forever, and ever, infinity and beyond.”

Of course, she doesn’t have a lot of time for her love life right now as aside from being mom to twins Moroccan and Monroe, 4, she is gearing up for her Caesar’s Palace residency after making her extravagant Las Vegas entrance.

Carey arrived on Monday in Sin City in a 1936 pink convertible, following 18 moving billboards all of which displaying different titles of her number 1 hits that she will be performing.
