Less than a week after former Glee actor Mark Salling was found dead by apparent suicide, an autopsy has already been conducted and his cause of death has been revealed.

As was reported, the autopsy confirmed that the 35-year-old died from suicide by hanging.

“The autopsy was completed today and the doctor just posted the cause of death asphyxia by hanging and the manner of death is suicide. The case is now closed and the body is ready for pick up,” Ed Winter of the Los Angeles Coroner Office said in a statement.

The former actor’s body was found on Tuesday, January 30 by a riverbed in the Sunland-Tujunga neighborhood of L.A., not far from his own home, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. It was later discovered that a member of Salling’s family had reported him as a missing person at 3 a.m. the morning before his body was found.

As previously reported, Salling’s death came shortly before he was due to appear in court on March 7 to be sentenced after he pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography in December and was expected to serve four to seven years in jail.

As well as jail time, he was ordered to register as a sex offender and pay $50,000 in restitution to each of his victims, but because he died before his sentencing, it is not clear on whether or not his estate will have to pay.
