Matthew McConaughey Receiving Backlash For Deer Hunting FarmPublished on February 5, 2015.
Matthew McConaughey may clean up really well when he walks the red carpet, but he has made it no secret that he is a rough and tumble guy who doesn’t mind hard work and getting dirty.
While everyone has their hobbies away from their full-time job, it is one of those hobbies that is getting the normally loved McConaughey into hot water with fans.
Matthew and his brother Mike own a ranch in Mertzon, Texas where they do normal ranch things such as raise and sell livestock like horses and cows, but they also offer hunting of white-tail deer on the property.
As reported by TMZ, it is one heck of a hunting experience as the massive ranch encourages visitors to plan multi-day hunting trips and stay on the property by providing food, and a tavern all on site.
While many people are against hunting in general, it appears this ranch does not provide what would be considered real hunting as the deer are seemingly trapped in order to be easier targets.
There are several feeding areas on site that the deer for obvious reasons rarely leave and the ranch has been “high fenced” so that the deer cannot run away. Many people have become outraged upon hearing McConaughey’s connection to the ranch, writing things such as, “We just lost all respect for you…This is NOT HUNTING…this is disgusting behavior for human beings!” and “NO MORE support for you Matthew in anything and everything you do.”
Matthew has not commented on the backlash but his nephew who is one of the manager’s of the ranch stated, “People are disgusted with us but we’re disgusted with them. We’re proud of what we do.” While another manager commented, “No meat goes to waste after the hunts. It helps feed our families.”
