Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are finding ways to help the U.K. even from afar amid ongoing global health and safety concerns.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex donated more than $112,000 generated from their royal wedding broadcast to the U.K. charity Feeding Britain. “They are delighted to be able to ensure this money is donated to such a great cause,” a spokesperson for the couple shared.
The couple broadcast their royal wedding for the world to view on BBC back on May 19, 2018. An estimated 1.9 billion people tuned in to watch the couple get married at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.
The charity they chose to donate the excess money to, Feeding Britain, works to eliminate hunger and its root causes across the U.K. Meghan and Harry have grown close over the years with the President of the organization, Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury. He not only conducted Archie’s baptism but also officiated Meghan and Harry’s wedding.
“The Duke and Duchess were able to speak to the Archbishop recently, and were moved to hear all about the work Feeding Britain was doing to support people,” Meghan and Harry’s spokesperson added.
“They have particularly fond memories of their visit to the citizens’ supermarket in Birkenhead, especially the generosity and compassion of everyone working there to help others. They are delighted to be able to ensure this money is donated to such a great cause.”
