It is no secret that Jenelle Evans has always been one of the most controversial stars of the Teen Mom franchise, but the most recent scandal surrounded her husband, David Eason.
As previously reported, fans and social media users were outraged when David Eason turned a discussion about guns in schools to a homophobic rant while responding to followers on Twitter. Following his shocking remarks, many called for MTV to address the issue and have Eason and Evans, or at the very least Eason, fired from the show.
Following the backlash, the network finally released a statement on Monday, February 20 indicating that they were in production for another season of Teen Mom 2 but cut ties with Eason immediately. “David Eason’s personal comments do not reflect the views of MTV. With six weeks left of production on ‘Teen Mom 2,’ effective immediately, we are ending our relationship with him,” the statement read.
While both Eason and Evans have now taken down their Twitter accounts, before MTV made their decision, Evans spoke with TMZ about the outrage against her husband in which she tried to defend his words. “David didn’t understand how offensive people would get or how Twitter even works. Now that he realizes his voice is very strong within media/tabloids he has deactivated his account. He agrees he will keep his comments to himself from now on,” she said. “David doesn’t hate people from the LGBT community. My old manager was gay and used to be one of me and Davids close friends. We attended Farrah’s birthday in Miami with a lot of LGBT people there and he didn’t act in any type of way. We went had a good time and left. We are sorry for the comments that were made,” she said.
Evans has yet to reveal if she will continue filming the season that is in production now that her husband is no longer involved with the show or the network.
