MTV has lost one of it its alum after it was reported that former Are You The One? contestant Alexis Eddy had passed away at only 23 years old.
Eddy, who appeared on the show’s sixth season, passed away after West Virginia’s Mannington Police Department were called to her home slightly before 7am on Thursday, January 9. According to reports, when authorities arrived they found that Alexis Eddy had suffered from cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of her passing is not yet known, and police could not comment on whether foul play is suspected.
“MTV is deeply saddened to hear about the tragic loss of Alexis Eddy. Our hearts go out to her family and friends during this difficult time,” MTV said a statement on Are You the One?‘s Twitter account on Thursday.
Eddy was one of the show’s most memorably contestants thanks to her love for partying and her backstory when she admitted on the show that her cousin was a convicted murderer. She also opened up about her struggle with substances but recently had announced she was sober along with her father.
“Guuuuuys look at this pic of me n my daddio finally sober together 😭😭😭,” the West Virginia native posted on social media in September. “pic on the right was two years ago… what a difference. So very blessed today. #RecoveryRocks”
In late 2019, Eddy revealed she had become engaged to her boyfriend Nate Lee, but by December it seemed as though the pair had split and posted about spending New Year’s Eve alone. “I’m bringing a mirror with me out tonight so I can kiss myself when the ball drops,” she wrote on December 31 via Twitter. “#2020 got love for ME and ME ONLY.”
Following the news of her passing, Ethan Cohen who also appeared on season 6 of Are You the One? revealed he had just talked to Eddy about her sobriety. “Literally talked to Alexis yesterday about how much better her life is sober,” Cohen, also known as “E-Money,” tweeted on Thursday, January 9 hours after her death was reported. “Just don’t even know how to feel right now. Can’t believe we’ll never have another heart to heart convo.”
While police are waiting for a toxicology to determine a cause, Eddy’s grandmother Carol Efaw has reportedly said that her granddaughter passed away due to an overdose.
