NBC Loses Nearly 750,000 Viewers By Moving Days Of Our Lives To Peacock

The decision to move Days Of Our Lives (DOOL) to Peacock doesn’t appear to be paying off for NBC so far.

In early August, NBC announced that DOOL, after 57 years on the network, would be shuffled off to its digital streaming platform. Filling its time slot would be a brand-new news program called NBC News Daily.

And while the new programming is only a few weeks old, the initial viewing numbers suggest that NBC miscalculated its audience.

Near the end of its network run, DOOL was averaging 1.6 million viewers per day, according to ShowBiz 411. In contrast, NBC News Daily pulled in 935,000 daily viewers last week.

All in all, that means that NBC has reportedly lost about 750,000 viewers since the September 12th switch.

It was a significant moment in daytime television history when NBC opted to move DOOL to their streaming platform. Television insiders were curious to see how it would all play out, while viewers expressed their own reservations

However, few analysts or onlookers will be surprised by these latest viewing numbers. NBC’s announcement needlessly caught DOOL viewers off guard, since the Peacock move was — as executive producer Ken Corday put it — “baked into” their 2021 renewal.

What this means for DOOL‘s future on Peacock is harder to predict, as the streaming service has yet to release viewing statistics. But the rollout for the soap on Peacock was similarly rocky, as insiders gave mixed messages about DOOL‘s long-term prospects.
