Is this another example of art imitating life, or life imitating art? Did a life become fantasy, or did fantasy become reality for writer Lauren Morelli?
Lauren Morelli is a writer on the hit Netflix series, Orange Is The New Black (or OITNB if you’re really cool), and around the time of booking her gig writing for the show, Lauren married Steve Basilone. As Loren fleshed out the story line between characters Piper and Alex, she began to feel a twinge of something she didn’t apparently realize–she was gay.
Morelli and her husband are pushing their divorce along a fast-track. It seems he’s not up for contesting something that is pointless for him to contest. According to the former couple, the entire process has been amicable… and we can all echo the sentiment: At least there were no kids involved.
Morelli is now dating Samira Wiley, an actress from OITNB, and to prove to everyone that it is all about love, the couple is not entering into a sexual relationship until… Oh. Wait. Sorry. Got two stories confused. This is not the case.
Seriously, though… Just looking to prove a point.
Why would their sex life be any of our business? And why is this story any of our business? Why would we attribute any of these actions to “love,” when love is a word that encompasses so much more than a relationship between two people. Isn’t that the point of the love agenda? So, don’t do it.
Let’s not pat Lauren on the back for realizing she’s gay, anymore than we would pat a man on the back for leaving his wife, and pursue a relationship with another woman he felt strongly about. In all fairness to the entire scenario, we may need to give Lauren an “Anne Heche Window” to determine if her gay sticks.
