Famed fashion icon Oscar de la Renta passed away on October 20, 2014 after a battle with cancer, deeply saddening the entire fashion, celebrity and high-profile world.
The legendary designer was remembered by many Monday November,3 as several celebrities and socialites poured in to attend his funeral in New York City.
The service held at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola in the Upper East Side of Manhattan was filled with friends, family and admirers of de la Renta, including other designers such as Diane von Furstenberg, Michael Kors and Tommy Hilfiger.
As well as designers, celebrities in attendance included, Hugh Jackman, Chelsea Clinton, Barbara Walters, Diane Sawyer and Matthew Broderick.
Broderick’s wife Sarah Jessica Parker, was one of de la Renta’s biggest fans, often attending events decked out in one of his gowns.
She also gushed over him on-screen in her role as Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw, where one episode was based around one of his dresses and Bradshaw compares his work to “poetry.”
As well as Parker, Oscar de la Renta was beloved by many including Jennifer Garner, Taylor Swift and Amal Alamuddin (Clooney) who wore one of his creations in her wedding to George Clooney in September.
He will be greatly missed in the fashion world but his company’s executives are dedicated to keeping his name connected to the best designs, stating, “We will make Oscar very proud of us by continuing in an even stronger way the work that Oscar loved so much.”
