Regis Philbin’s Cause Of Passing Revealed

Nearly one week after the passing of beloved TV personality Regis Philbin, his cause of death has been revealed.

Earlier this week, a spokesperson for Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Farmington, CT revealed that Philbin passed away at 88 from a myocardial infarction due to coronary artery disease.

Following his passing on July 24, his family confirmed the loss with an emotional statement. We are deeply saddened to share that our beloved Regis Philbin passed away last night of natural causes, one month shy of his 89th birthday,” their message began. “His family and friends are forever grateful for the time we got to spend with him–for his warmth, his legendary sense of humor, and his singular ability to make every day into something worth talking about. They continued, “We thank his fans and admirers for their incredible support over his 60-year career and ask for privacy as we mourn his loss.”

Tributes for the star have continued to pour in over the course of the week while it was also revealed that he will be laid to rest at his alma mater the University of Notre Dame. He will be buried at Cedar Grove Cemetery, which is on Notre Dame University’s campus, and there will also be a funeral service to honor Philbin at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. However, a date for the funeral has not been set.

“Regis regaled millions on air through the years, oftentimes sharing a passionate love for his alma mater with viewers. He will be remembered at Notre Dame for his unfailing support for the University and its mission, including the Philbin Studio Theater in our performing arts center,” Notre Dame President Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., said in a statement. “He likewise was generous with his time and talent in support of South Bend’s Center for the Homeless and other worthy causes. Our prayers are with his wife, Joy, and their daughters and Notre Dame alumnae Joanna and J.J.”
