A lot of the time when two of music’s most powerful artists come together, it’s to create a huge money-making single to catapult both to more fame and riches, but that’s not the case for the new recording by Grammy-winners Sam Smith and John Legend.

The incredible duo teamed up to record a duet version of Sam Smith’s 2013 single “Lay Me Down” which was released on Monday March 9, and did it all for a good cause in the name of UK’s Comic Relief Red Nose Day 2015.

All proceeds from the track will go to the charity and the pair will also appear at the London Palladium on March 13 where BBC One will be airing the “Comic Relief: Face the Funny” event. “Sam is such a talented artist. We’ve been looking forward to working together for a while now. I’m so glad we could collaborate on such a great song and for such a great cause,” Legend said of the collaboration.

As for his part, Smith took to his Twitter account after the track was released to promote the good cause and gush about Legend, “So honored to collaborate with such an incredible artist. Please so support the track, it is for a great cause. xx,” and he later tweeted out the video for the song as well.

Smith also told Billboard magazine that he has seen first-hand the results of the charity and couldn’t be happier to be involved this year with Legend, as previous years have also seen stars such as One Direction lending their voices to the cause.

“I recently visited a Comic Relief-funded project in my hometown which supports the young LGBT community in London. I’m extremely proud that my single will help raise money for projects like this and many others in the UK and across Africa,” Smith stated.
