Actress Sandra Bullock has made an incredibly generous donation to help victims of Hurricane Harvey. The star donated $1 million to the Red Cross relief effort.

“This is an incredible gift. We’re so thankful. It’s times like this when we do receive such an incredible amount of support. Especially during times of disaster, people see what’s happening in Texas and our hearts all go out to them,” the Vice President of Communications for American Red Cross told PEOPLE. “Having someone like Sandra Bullock make this kind of commitment, it helps bring people together and opens their hearts and be even more generous.”

The tragedy struck a chord with Bullock who has been a long time supported of the American Red Cross and owns a home in Austin, Texas. She has become an advocate to support the tragedy and is encouraging others to help as well.“I’m just grateful I can do it,” she says of her donation. “We all have to do our part.”

Bullock’s donation comes alongside many other celebrities who have pitched in their support for those suffering from this tragedy, including Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Kim Kardashian West, DJ Khaled, and Nicki Minaj. The Walt Disney Company has also donated $1 million in addition to Facebook announcing that it will match any donations made on its website up to $1 million.
