Modern Family star Sarah Hyland was granted a permanent restraining order against her ex, Matthew Prokop yesterday.
Late last month, Hyland was issued a temporary restraining order after stating that Prokop had been abusive through their entire relationship which lasted for five years.
One of the worst moments occurred when Prokop became upset with an outfit Hyland was wearing and he pinned her against a car, choking her, while calling her names. “His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak. I was scared and in fear for my life”, the 23 year old actress stated in court documents.
After she decided she could not continue with the relationship she asked her on-screen mother and Modern Family costar Julie Bowen to help her breakup with him as peacefully as possible.
However, after the breakup Prokop threatened to burn her house down and continued to harass her, “he relentlessly bombarded me with vile, threatening and emotionally disturbing texts and voicemails”, Hyland continued.
Her new restraining order is effective for three years and also has to go as far as protecting her dog, after Prokop reportedly threatened that she would never see her dog again. Under the restraining order, Matthew Prokop has to stay 100 yards away from the actress, her home and her dog. As well he is prohibited from going near her job and cannot own or possess a gun or ammunition.
The two initially met in 2008 and began a relationship not long after.
