Hollywood is no stranger to the offspring of Hollywood’s elite becoming the next generation of superstars and although some children embrace it, others choose to make their own path in life. Scott Eastwood is kind of doing both.

As the son of Hollywood icon Clint Eastwood, 84, Scott knows that his last name has a long legacy tied to it and that is why it took him until the age of 28 to take on acting seriously, landing his first leading role in The Longest Ride.

He wanted so much to make sure his success was his own, the young Eastwood didn’t even use the recognized moniker at the beginning of his career. “I wanted to earn it on my own merit. At some point you say, ‘F–k it. That’s my dad’s last name, that’s my legacy,” he revealed in an interview with Treats! magazine.

While his father is a Hollywood staple and has been for decades, he had only one request of his son when choosing a career path, “To be honest, [my dad] didn’t care if I was a plumber or if I was an actor. He just said, ‘Whatever you do, do it well. Be humble, work hard and be a man.”

While that sounds exactly like the type of thing Clint Eastwood would say, Scott revealed some even better advice offered from his famous father, “Pay attention. Listen. It’s more advice about life [than work]. Just always try to better yourself as a human being, never get too comfortable and invest back in yourself.”

The Longest Ride is the latest Nicholas Sparks’ novel to be adapted to the big screens and is set to hit theatres April 10, 2015.
