Selena Gomez Named One Of Time’s 46 Women Who Are Changing The World
Published on September 8, 2017.25-year old Selena Gomez has accomplished quite the milestone and was recently listed as one of Time’s 46 women who are changing the world!
Time has created profiles to highlight 46 women of various ages, backgrounds, orientations and political views who have made waves in progressing society for the better. Gomez was recognized for holding one of the world’s largest audiences at the palm of her hand by being the first person to reach 100 million followers on Instagram. She also recently played a part in directing the controversial series 13 Reasons Why which focused on the taboo topic of teen suicide.
On Selena’s profile, the popstar gave massive thanks to her mother for helping her become the influential woman she is recognized as today. “My mom is the kind of person who understands what hard work is. She was still in high school when she had me. She worked multiple jobs. But she made me feel like I was capable of doing anything I wanted, maybe because she didn’t really have that opportunity,” Gomez told the magazine.
Gomez also acknowledged her massive following and how social media has affected her life. “There is a trust I have with people my age, or a little bit younger, that I don’t think I would have if I started later. I hope my fans learn who they are is beautiful [and they] can connect with people by sharing what they’re feeling. It’s very personal to me.”
Gomez also took to Instagram to tell her followers she hopes to grow even more in the future. “When I read about the beautiful women who wake up consciously every day to make a change, it inspires me to want to do so much more. Not really sure how I got so lucky @time but thank you for highlighting the power of what we can and will always strive to be,” the popstar told her followers.
