It has been over three months since it was reported that Selena Gomez was seeking treatment after she reportedly suffered an emotional breakdown while already in the hospital to deal with health issues surrounding her kidney transplant, and on Monday, January 14 she returned to social media with a message.
The 26-year-old, who has stayed away from the spotlight since seeking treatment in October last year, returned to Instagram with three new photos and a heartfelt post. “It’s been awhile since you have heard from me, but I wanted to wish everyone a happy new year and to thank you for your love and support. Last year was definitely a year of self-reflection, challenges and growth,” she wrote.
“It’s always those challenges which show you who you are and what you are capable of overcoming. Trust me, it’s not easy, but I am proud of the person I am becoming and look forward to the year ahead. Love you all,” Gomez concluded.
After completing her treatment in December, the singer has been spotted hanging out with friends, hiking, skiing, and taking Pilates classes.
Gomez — who previously underwent a kidney transplant due to complications from lupus — has been open about her battle with depression and anxiety.
Shortly before seeking treatment in 2018, Gomez revealed she was stepping away from social media as well. “As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given. Kindness and encouragement only for a bit! Just remember— negative comments can hurt anybody’s feelings. Obvi,” she wrote.
