Competition series are all the rage on TV right now and with shows like American Idol, The Voice and more producing quite a few country stars, a new series based solely on country music is on the way with country legend Shania Twain and country star Jake Owen as hosts.
The series, called Real Country, is produced by Wilshire Studio and is set to premiere on USA Network this fall. According to the casting call, the show is not looking for bands, but rather individual singers, duos and trios who will compete through eight weeks of competition with one winner selected each week to advance.
In a press release for the new reality series, Twain said, “It’s been an incredible year for me, releasing my new album and coming back to country music. I feel it’s time for me to add my own support in finding our greatest undiscovered talent. It’s beyond thrilling to be leading the charge with Real Country, and I’m on a mission to find artists who will keep country music diverse and dynamic. The kind of diversity that inspired all of us.”
Meanwhile Owen, said, “Country music truly seems to be the healing factor in a lot of people’s lives. I will always be grateful for music, whether I’m performing or listening, and I want to encourage up-and-coming artists to tell their stories, find their audiences and make their mark in country music with the same guidance that artists have given to me throughout my journey.”
After news of the new series broke, Owen also took to his Instagram to share an image of the Rolling Stone article and added the caption, “Can’t Wait.”
