It’s all in the family for The Bachelor season 12 winner Shayne Lamas, 29, and her husband Nik Richie who announced back in September that they were expecting their second child, and this time via surrogate.
At the time they didn’t say who their surrogate was but in the March 2 issue of Closer Weekly the reality star revealed that it is actually her stepmother Shawna Craig who is carrying her baby.
It turns out Shayne’s stepmother is actually a year younger than her and became the fifth wife of Shayne’s father, Falcon Crest actor Lorenzo Lamas, 57 when they tied the knot in April 2011. “Shawna’s not just my stepmother. She’s like a soul sister. She’s an angel that blessed my whole family, including my father,” she stated of her connection to Shawna.
Meanwhile Shawna insists that she never wanted a baby of her own but her work for a fertility agency made her realize she could help Nik and Shayne, “I’m ecstatic to be pregnant. It’s the best thing in the world,” Shawna who is due July 10 stated.
They are also happy to announce that they are expecting a little boy and baby brother to their daughter Press Dahl, 3.
Shayne is no longer able to have children after suffering a tragic miscarriage with her son, Rex Jagger. Last year, 20 weeks into her pregnancy Shayne suffered a rare uterine rupture and when doctors performed emergency surgery they found that the baby was growing outside of her uterus and could not be saved and Shayne had to undergo an emergency hysterectomy resulting in the loss of her uterus and half her bladder.
“Somebody else carrying your baby is weird. But I lost my son, and now Shawna is carrying my son. I have just been given the biggest blessing in the whole world and I will always be grateful.”
