Shirley Manson Blasts Kanye West In Open Facebook Letter

The Grammys may be over, but the drama certainly is not after Kanye West almost interrupted Beck after he won for Album of the Year over Beyonce, who we all know is very strongly supported by West.

While he thought better of grabbing the mic like he did to Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV Video Awards, he did not hold back on how he felt about Beck’s win at the after party saying, “Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyonce,” which was only a part of his angry rant.

Beck however was nothing but cordial saying he thought Beyonce was going to win too and said he think’s Kanye is a “genius” and “I still love him.”

Some other artists however did not react so well to West’s disrespect of Beck’s Grammy win and one of those was singer Shirley Manson from the rock band Garbage who posted a very candid open letter to Facebook directed at Kanye and his actions.

“Dear Kanye West, it is YOU who is so busy disrespecting artistry. You disrespect your own remarkable talents and more importantly you disrespect the talent, hard work and tenacity of all artists when you go so rudely and savagely after such an accomplished and humble artist like BECK. You make yourself look small and petty and spoilt. In attempting to reduce the importance of one great talent over another, you make a mockery of all musicians and music from every genre, including your own. Grow up and stop throwing your toys around. You are making yourself look like a complete twat. P.s. I am pretty certain Beyonce doesn’t need you fighting any battles on her account. Seems like she’s got everything covered perfectly well on her own.”

Meanwhile, West’s good friend John Legend said none of it should be taken too seriously, “I thought it was funny. I looked at it as just a funny thing that people were going to talk about. It didn’t hurt anybody. Anybody who’s upset just needs to relax. It was funny.”
